The Battle of Svolder is one of the greatest naval battles of the Viking era, fought in September 999 or 1000 in the western Baltic Sea; between King Olaf Tryggvason of Norway and an alliance of his enemies. The Battle of Svolder took place to unite Norway into a single independent state and to spread Christianity throughout Scandinavia.As a result, King Olaf Tryggvason created several enemies throughout the Viking-dominated regions of northern Europe.
