The Battle of Kulikovo is a significant event in the history of medieval Russia. The event took place on September 8; 1380, between Russian troops under the leadership of Vladimir and Moscow Grand Duke Dmitry Donskoy and the Tatar army led by Mamai. The battle resulted in the defeat of the Tatar forces and initiated the release of the Russian people from the yoke of the Golden Horde.The Battle of Kulikovo marked a turning point, at which Mongol influence began to wane, and Moscow's power began to rise. The Battle of Kulikova was the battle for protecting culture and tradition. The victory provided Russia with the foundation for unification throughout the ages.
