Udham Singh or Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Udham Singh was an Indian revolutionary belonging to Ghadar Party and HSRA. He is best known for assassinating Michael O'Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of Punjab in India, on 13 March 1940. The assassination of Michael O'Dwyer was revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919, for which O'Dwyer was responsible. While travelling in different countries, he took up different names like Ude Singh, Udhan Singh, and Uday Singh. During his final days in the English Prison, he called himself Ram Mohammad Singh Azad which represents three major religions in India and his anti-colonial sentiment.
The government of India issued this commemorative stamp in 1992 to commemorate him and his work.
