Cyrus was the great king of Persia, commonly known as Cyrus the Great. He was the founder of the Achaemenid Empire, the first Persian Empire. Under his rule, the empire embraced all of the previous civilized states of the ancient Near East. He expanded his kingdom vastly and eventually conquered most of Western Asia and much of Central Asia.Cyrus is well-known for respecting the customs and religion; of the lands he conquered. He freed his slaves; declared that all people have the right to choose their religion. He established racial equality. Eventually, his idea of human rights spread quickly to India, Greece, and eventually Rome.
