Palitana Temple Commemorative Stamp

The Palitana temple is located in the Shatrunjaya hills near Palitana in the Bhavnagar district; in the Indian state of Gujarat. The meaning of Shatrunjaya is 'place of victory against inner enemies' or 'which conquers inner enemies.The temple was built in and after the 11th century CE; it is one of the most sacred sites of Svetambara tradition within Jainism. It is one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for the Jains. There are nearly around 863 temples spread in spread mostly in nine clusters, some being vast temple complexes, while most are small in size. It is the largest temple complex in the world.
