Fiji's 100-Dollar Note
2022-06-20 Mon
The Fijian dollar has been the currency of Fiji since 1969 and was also the currency between 1867 and 1873. The choice of the name dollar was motivated by the fact that the reduced value of the new unit corresponded more closely to the value of the US dollar than it did to the pound sterling. On 16 August 2005, Finance Minister Ratu Jone Kubuabola announced that the Cabinet had approved the introduction of a 100 Dollars banknote and the withdrawal of the 1 and 2 cent coins. The above banknote was issued in the year 2007.
Its obverse side shows a Buili Kula which is a golden cowrie necklace, and a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Its reverse side features two women signers, a man holding a guitar, a 180-meridian map, two snorklers, a sailing ship, and a fish.
