Birsa Munda was an Indian freedom fighter and a tribal leader belonging to Munda Tribe. Birsa Munda was born on November 15, 1875, in Ulihatu village in present-day Jharkhand, in a tribal Munda family. He spent his childhood moving from one place to another with his parents.Birsa Munda got converted to Christianity to join German Mission School but soon dropped out after finding out that Britishers were aiming to convert tribals to Christianity through education. While studying in a British school, he developed a strong anti-government and anti-missionary stamp on his mind from there.
During those days, the tribal people face lots a lot of exploitation and oppression by zamindars, jagirdars, moneylenders, etc. The Tribal people revolted against the British government, Birsa also join the fight against the British government for the land and rights of the tribals in 1894. He got arrested by the British government on March 3, 1900, and he died in Ranchi on June 9, 1900, at the young age of 25.
The movement he died the movement he started also died. Birsa Munda was the one, who not only mobilize the tribal community against the British government but also forced the colonial authorities to introduce laws protecting the land rights of the tribes.
