Nalanda is the name of the ancient university, the center of higher education, and was a Buddhist center of learning from 427 to 1197 CE. The site of Nalanda University is located in the Indian state of Bihar, about 55 miles southeast of Patna. It is one of the great universities in recorded history.Nalanda was established during the Gupta Empire. It played an important role in the patronage of art and academics during the 5th and 6th centuries CE. This period of Nalanda University is still considered as the "Golden Age of India" by scholars. It stands out one of the most ancient university of the Indian Subcontinent.
