The Central Bank of Egypt issued this 1 Egyptian Pound Banknote in 1979. These banknotes are still in circulation.This 1 Egyptian Pound Banknote depicts Abu Simbel Temples of Egypt. The Abu Simble temple of Egypt is a historical site containing two massive rock-cut temples built by the Egyptian king Ramses II (reigned 1279–13 BCE). This temple is located in a small village of Aswan in Upper Egypt near the border with Sudan on the western bank of Lake Nasser.
Abu Simbel Temple commemorates King Ramses II's victory in the Battle of Kadesh. It resembles the memorial of King Ramses II him and Queen Nefertari.
