Sarat Chandra Chatterji, also known as Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, was a Bengali novelist and short story writer of the early 20th century. He is best known for his book 'Devdas'. Most of the work of Sarat Chandra Chatterji speaks about the lifestyle, struggle, tragedy, and struggle of the village people.

Sarat Chandra Chatterji was born in a Bengali poor Brahmin family; in Debanandapur, a small village in Hooghly, West Bengal, on September 15, 1876. He was sensitive from his childhood; at the same time, he was bold and fearless in his writings, which captivated his readers.

Sarat Chandra Chatterji has made around fifty films in many Indian languages. Some of his most important works are Devdas, Srikanta, Swami, Choritroheen, Pather Dabi, etc.
