Maithili Sharan Gupt was one of the most important modern Hindi poets. Maithili Sharan Gupt was the pioneer of Khari Boli dialects. He wrote his poems in Khari Boli when most poets prefer to use Braj Bhasha dialects. He was honored with the Padma Bhushan award for his book Bharat-Bharati.

Maithili Sharan Gupt entered Hindi literature by writing poems for various magazines. In 1910, his first work, Rang Mai Bhang, was published by Indian Press. He wrote his poems related to the Motherland.

In 1947, After India achieved Independence; he was made an honorary member of the Rajya Sabha. He remained a member of the Rajya Sabha till his death in 1964.
