Narayan MeghajiLokhande was born in a Mali family in 1848 in Thane, Maharashtra. His family had a business selling flowers, so he followed the same. Narayan MeghajiLokhande; was strongly influenced by the work of Mahatma JotibaPhule. Narayan MeghajiLokhande started his career with the railways and the postal department. In 1870, he joined Mandavi Textile Mills as Store Keeper.
Narayan MeghajiLokhande was the father of the Trade Union Movement in India. He is best known for improving labor conditions and living standards; throughout the world. Narayan MeghajiLokhande not only improved the working condition of the textile mill during the 19th century but also took initiatives on caste and communal issues.
