Verrapandian Kattabomman also was Tamil palayakarrar and king of Panchalankuruchi, in Tamil Nadu. He was also called Kattabomman Nayak of Panchalankurichi Palayam. He was born to Jagaveera Pandiya Kattabommu and his wife Arumugathammal in 1760.He refused to accept the sovereignty of the British East India Company and held war against them. After the Battle, British Empire captured him and hanged him in 1977 CE. The British Empire destroyed his fort and looted all his wealth. Today Panchalankurichi is a historical place, present in Thoothududi district of Tamil Nadu, India.
This commemorative stamp was issued in 1999 by the Indian government to commemorate him and his work.
