Rukmini Devi Arundale Commemorative Stamp

Rukmini Devi Arundale was an Indian theosophist, dancer, and choreographer of the Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam and an activist for animal welfare. She was the first Indian woman nominated for RajyaSabha. She was also known for her efforts towards the protection of animal rights and their welfare.

Rukmini Devi Arundale was born in a Brahmin family, Madura, Madras Presidency on February 29, 1904. She also worked for the re-establishment of traditional Indian arts and crafts. She was also awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1956 and the SangeetNatakAkademi Fellowship in 1967.

This commemorative stamp; was issued by the Indian government to commemorate her and her work.
