Louis XVI is also known as Louis-Auguste Duc de Berry; he was the last king of France before the fall of the monarchy during the French Revolution.

Louis XVI was third son of dauphin Louis and his consort Maria Joseph of Saxony. At first, known as the Duc de Berry, he became the heir to the throne on his father’s death in 1765.

Since childhood Louis XVI, Louis Auguste was an intellectually curious and gifted student. When Louis XVI; sat on the throne in 1774, he had enormous responsibility as the government and was deeply in debt, and resentment of “despotic” monarchy was on the rise. The extreme lack of decisiveness demonstrated by his decision brought more bankruptcy; he is described as quiet and shy but also conventional and unimaginative.
