James Augustine Aloysius Joyce was an Irish novelist, short story writer, poet, and literary critic. He was one of the most influential and motivational writers of the 20th century. Some of his well-known works are Dubliners (1914), A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1916), Ulysses (1922), and Finnegans Wake (1939). His collection of poetry includes Chamber Music (1907) and Pomes Penyeach (1927).
James Joyce's novels use innovative language, the use of dialogue, characteristics of modernist form, and social frankness, met with resistance when they first appeared in print. The above commemorative stamp was issued by Ireland in 2000 to commemorate him and his work.
