The third coin of the “Austria by its Children: Piece by Piece 10 Euro” commemorative coin series, which started in 2012, is dedicated to the state named Niederosterreich. The reverse designs are selected through a competition between children of that particular state. The obverse highlights other important landmarks of that area. The obverse depicts a view of the Wachau World Heritage Trail, featuring valleys, hillsides, Renaissance-era towns, cliffs, terraces, vineyards, old castles, forts etc. Other inscriptions include ‘REPUBLIK OSTERREICH’, ‘WACHAU’ and ‘10 EURO’.
The reverse is designed by 10-year-old Christian Kopf with four equal sections. The top-left portion celebrates the lumber industry, the top-right segment honours the wine industry; the bottom-right area highlights the industrial and manufacturing sector and the bottom-left section features agricultural operations. Other inscription includes ‘NIEDEROSTERREICH’.
Austria’s largest agricultural and industrial province Niederosterreich is situated in Lower Austria. The state is known for the beautiful Danube River which flows from west to east. Since the region is below the river, it is said to be in Lower Austria even though it appears to be in the northern part. This state is famous for more than 4,000 caverns, ancient castles and monasteries, vineyards, lovely lakes and mountains.
