Muhammad Azam Shah was the eldest son of the sixth Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. He sat on the throne of the Mughal Empire after the death of Aurangzeb in the year 1707 CE. In the same year, he got defeated by his stepbrother Muhammad Mu’azzam in the battle of Jajau, who later sat on the Mughal throne by the title ‘Bahadur Shah I’.
This silver rupee minted in Ahmedabad weighs around 11.19g. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as 'SikkaZad Dar Jahan Ba Daulat-Wa-JahBadshahMamulikAzam Shah' with AH 1119. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as julus-e-ashraf, sanahahad, zarb Ahmadabad’.
