Designs of Coins to Commemorate Lions Clubs International Revealed

The 100th anniversary of the Lions Clubs International will be celebrated with the issue of new commemorative coins, the designs of which were revealed on 29th June in Fukuoka, Japan. As per a special public law, the U.S. Mint has got the authority to issue these $1 silver coins.The obverse depicts a portrait of founder Melvin Jones and the Lions Clubs International logo. Other inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “MELVIN JONES,” “FOUNDER,” and “2017.”
The reverse features a male and female lion with a lion cub over a globe. Other inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “$1,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF SERVICE”.
The coins can be purchased with a $10 surcharge, which will be donated to promote the activities that the club undertakes for the blind in the U.S. and abroad; invest in technologies for the disabled; and invest in youth and those affected by disasters.
Details of the coins will be shared before they are released in 2017.
