Silver Drachma of Paramaras Listed For INR 75,000

The Paramars dynasty was an Indian dynasty that ruled the Indian part of subcontinent during the medieval period in India. They established themselves rulers of Malwa during 9th century making Dhar as their capital. The dynasty ruled as vassals of Rashtrakutas of Manyakheta. . The Paramaras was well known as the patronage to Sanskrit poets and scholars. They came to the power after the decline of Chalukyas of Gujarat, the Chalukyas of Kalyani, the Kalachuris of Tripuri and other neighboring kingdoms.This silver drachm that weighs around 1.92g was issued from Paramaras of Malwa. The obverse of this coin depicts ‘Four-armed Lakshmi seated facing cross-legged’. The reverse of this coin is inscribed with the Devanagari legend‘Shri Ma / ha lu gi /’. This coin is listed for INR 75,000 in the upcoming auction of Oswal Antiques that will be held in Lucknow on October 1, 2021.
