2016-06-28 Tue
A unique Proof .9999 fine silver $8 coin was released by the Royal Canadian Mint featuring a fight between a tiger and a dragon in a traditional battle position. The tiger and the dragon portray two equally opposing forces, yin and yang. Just like the ancient Chinese coins, the new coin also bears a square shaped hole in the centre representing the Earth and the national landmass. Above the hole is the yin/yang symbol surrounded with flames. Other inscriptions on the reverse includes the date and the denomination ‘8 DOLLARS’.The obverse depicts two phoenixes, showcasing a contrasting feminine side when compared with the reverse design. Apart from that, the common effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is also depicted on the obverse within a polished cartouche bearing interesting scrollwork.
The mintage of this coin is limited to 6,888 pieces and each coin can be purchased for $73.88.
