Numismatist Reveals Dos and Don’ts of Online Auctions
2016-06-23 Thu
Noted numismatist and journalist Michael Bugeja sometimes wins uncertified coins on Proxibid, then gets it approved by PCGS or NGC, and finally sells them on eBay, GreatCollections, or Silver Towne Auctions. He keeps a few coins that he has already won for his own collection and indulges in numismatic studies and journalism. He says that when it comes to selling coins online, it is very important to find a good consignor who does not make unnecessary delays in payments. This helps in cutting costs related to follow-ups.He used to insure his coins earlier but does not do that currently to save money. He packs his coins with cupboard holders and sends them through U.S Postal Service with signature confirmation. He says that the Postal Service is far better than any other logistics provider.
Before sending the coins, he intimates his consignors and sends an email notification regarding the same. He also attaches a hard copy of the email along with the coin so that there is no scope for miscommunication.
Michael states that most auctioneers do not accept coins that are not graded by PCGS, NGC, ANACS or ICG. If you send them raw coins, they could get them graded for you at discounted rates.
Also, he states that most people bid for coins to win bargains. You could earn profits or make losses, the idea is to make some big bucks every now and then.
