Strange U.S-Canadian Mule Coin to be Sold for $35,000
2016-06-23 Thu
A U.S. 1970 quarter mistakenly minted over a 1941 Canadian coin is being sold by its Las Vegas based owner named Mike Byers online for an estimate price of $35,000. As many as 2,400 buyers are already lined up to possess this strange coin. The reason behind this mistake is still being figured out. The word “Dollar” is evidently seen on the reverse of the American quarter. The Latin inscriptions of the original Canadian coin can also be seen on the obverse of the quarter. The coin is authenticated by Numismatic Guaranty Corp, and is indeed one of the most interesting error coins ever found.
After the U.S. Secret Service approved it as a legal coin, it was auctioned by the State of California. As per reports, nobody knows how many such coins were minted but not a single one was ever circulated.
