2021-06-21 Mon
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), in 2019, released a new generation coin series which includes enhanced 5-peso coins and 20 Peso coins which are to be circulated under the New Coin Series. 20 peso coins are the highest denomination coin and are also more cost-efficient to produce as they will have a longer circulation life than the current banknote. The new 20-peso coins shall co-exist as legal tender with the currently-circulating 20-peso banknotes. The coin’s front side features Manuel L. Quezon, the first president of the Philippine Commonwealth whereas the reverse side shows the BSP logo and the official residence of the Philippine President.7\ The enhanced 5-peso coin features nine sides to make it more distinct from other denominations in the Coin Series. The coin featured the portrait of Bonifacio, the Father of the Philippine Revolution, on the obverse along with his name below, the value to the right, and the country’s name above along with the mintmark. The reverse depicts the tayabak, a Philippine endemic plant, the BSP logo, and the issuer name in microprint. Image Courtesy: sunstar.com.phLatest News
