Commemorative Coin Honouring Sikh Leader Banda Bahadur Released

Banda Singh Bahadur, the first sovereign ruler of Punjab, was only 46 when he gave his life for the pride of tradition. He defeated the Mughals in 1710 but was later captured and executed in 1716.This great man’s 300th Martyrdom Day was celebrated on 21st June 2016 by releasing a commemorative silver coin featuring his portrait. The coin was released by Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley.
Mr. Jaitley pointed out there is a need for people to be educated about martyrs like Banda Singh Bahadur. He also recommended the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee to make a documentary on Banda Singh Bahadur.
