England to Release New £5 Polymer Notes
2016-06-21 Tue
The design for the new £5 polymer note has been revealed by the Bank of England which will go into circulation this September. Banknotes of England have been made from cotton paper since the last 100 years. The designs of the polymer note are printed on special layers of ink. The plastic used is see-through and the designs can have windows through which you can look straight through. Countries like Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada already use polymer notes.
As per officials, the polymer note would be cleaner as they would not get wet or dirty. The see-through window is a powerful security feature which is hard to replicate. The lifespan of polymer notes is much higher than that of paper money. They might survive if they accidently end up in the washing machine but they would not be able to withstand high temperatures.
Apart from £5 polymer notes, £10 polymer notes would be released in 2017 and £20 polymer notes would enter circulation in 2020.
