Martin Luther King was an African American, Baptist minister. He was the most active spokesperson and leader in the civil right movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. King advanced civil rights through nonviolence and civil disobedience, inspired by his Christian beliefs and the nonviolent activism of Mahatma Gandhi.Martin Luther King played a vital role in ending the legal segregation of African American citizens in the United States, as well as the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. He won the noble prize in 1964, along with the several other honour. He continues to be remembered as one of the most influential and inspirational African American leaders in history.
