Beware of Fake Gold Coins
2016-06-13 Mon
This year, gold prices have seen a steep rise which is why the market looks very volatile. The trend is such that people have started investing in bullion gold coins instead. A lot of money is being pumped in for marketing and advertising bullion gold coins. But along with the rise in demand, another serious problem has cropped up, that of rising number of counterfeits. The problem with these coins is that they look exactly similar to their original counterparts and they are very difficult to be distinguished with the naked eye. An original US Eagle gold coin could be worth $1,000 while its duplicate could be worth just a dollar.
Many collectors get fooled when they purchase these coins online. The fake coins also weigh as much as the real gold coin and are also packaged like them, making it even more difficult to be identified.
Experts suggest collectors to perform an acid test where the fake coin will feature a dull gray lead underneath. They also state that trading with reputed and dignified dealers is also extremely important.
