Public Meeting Scheduled to Discuss New U.S. Mint Coin Releases

2016-06-09 Thu

The U.S. Mint is gearing up for its three new releases. A public meeting will be held on 27th June by The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) to review medal and coin designs, discuss Palladium Eagles and elect a panel of members who would finalize the coin design for the “fight against breast cancer” coin.

The historical tradition of issuing medals has been continued today by the U.S. mint with Presidential Medals. The medals feature the portrait of the current chief executive while the reverse of the recent medals have the White House and an excerpt from a presidential speech.

Obverses of the American Palladium Eagles feature the original design of the Winged Liberty Head dime, similar to the 2016 gold Mercury dime design. Reverses depict the 1907 American Institute of Architects medal design.

The America Beautiful Quarters series commemorates national parks and other national sites throughout the U.S. New designs would be required for the 2018 coin that would mark the ninth year for the series.

Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coins would be a series of $5 coins in pink gold, silver dollars and clad half-dollars. The final designs will be selected through a competition which would be judged by elected members from the CCAC and the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA).

The meeting would begin from 6:00 p.m. and should last until 9:00 p.m. at Gaylord Hall in the Worner Center, Campus of Colorado College, 902 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
