Anglo Saxon Coin Hoard Worth £1.35m Found in England
2016-06-09 Thu
When luck gets on the better side of you, all you have to do is enjoy the joy ride! Imagine you are a metal detectorist and one fine day, you discover a hoard of 5,251 Anglo Saxon silver coins worth £1.35m. You can only imagine, but all of this actually happened to a gentleman named Paul Coleman from Lenborough, Buckinghamshire, in 2014. As per orders from the Treasure Valuation Committee, Mr Coleman will have to share the money with the land owner. The Buckinghamshire County Museum raised funds to acquire the hoard even before the coins were evaluated. The coins were issued by 40 different mints around England and depict portraits of King Ethelred the Unready and King Canute. Mr. Coleman said that he would be happy if the coins went to the museum for future research and not to collectors around the world. As per official reports, almost £12,000 has been raised by the museum.
