The 1918 Jenny Inverts have been every stamp collector’s dream since many years now. And when you get a chance to own one of the finest of these beauties, you can only imagine what it’s like. Yes, the once-in-ten-years World Stamp Show-NY 2016 recently auctioned one of the highest-graded examples of the 100 remaining Inverted Jennies for an impressive $1,351,250.

The Professional Stamp Experts has graded this particular stamp as extra fine-superb 95. The final bid was 50 percent higher than its own previous record that was set in 2007. In fact, it has gone ahead and broken all records pertaining to the sale of stamps issued by United States.

This particular stamp was auctioned for $577,500 in 2005. The event was promoted well considering that the stamp had a potential to break records. An actual Curtiss Jenny aircraft was parked at the Javits Center. The granddaughter of the original discoverer of Inverted Jennies, William T. Robey, was also invited at the event as the chief guest. On 14th May, the anniversary of the day when the stamps were launched, a dedicated website called invertedjenny.com was created which hosted all kinds of information about the stamps like past sale results, history and how this stamp went on to become a superstar in the field of Philately.

All these efforts paid off and the event turned out to be a grand success. The bid started at $400,000 and at the end, two bidders competed to take the figure past 1 million.
