Silver Tanka of Taj-ud-Din Firuz Shah

This silver tanka was issued by Taj-ud-Din Firuz Shah of Bahamani Sultanate. Taj Al-Din Firuz Shah was the ruler of the Bahamani Sultanate. He sat on the throne of Bahamani Sultanate in the year 1397 CE and ruled it 1422 CE.

Taj-ud-Din Firuz Shah is considered an important ruler of the Bahamani Sultanate. After sitting on the throne of Bahamani Sultanate he expanded his kingdom and even succeeded in conquering the Raichur Doab from Vijaynagara kingdoms.

Taj ud-Din Firuz Shah issued coins in gold, silver, and copper metal. In silver he issued coins in two different varieties; one which contains Kunya, Abul Muzaffar on the obverse, and the second which contains Kunya, Abul Muzaffar on the reverse side. Coins with Kunya inscription on the obverse side are common while the coins with Kunya inscription on the reverse are rare. Kunya is a component of the Arabic name, a type of epithet, the name of an adult-derived from his or her eldest child.

This silver tanka issued by Taj ud-Din Firuz Shah, minted in Hadrat Ahsanabad weighs around 10.85g. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘sultan al-and we'll zaman al-within bi-ta'yid al-Rahman Abul Muzaffar’. The reverse side of this coin is inscribed as ‘Taj al-Dunya wa'l din Firoz shah al-sultan’.
