Sad news came from the USA this morning! Muhammad Ali – one of the greatest professional boxers in the world passed away at a hospital.Originally known as Cassius Clay, Muhammad Ali was one of the most recognized sports figures of the past 100 years. He began training at 12 years old and at the age of 22 won the world heavyweight championship.
Ali remains the only three-time lineal world heavyweight champion; he won the title in 1964, 1974, and 1978. Muhammad Ali reigned as the undisputed heavyweight boxing champion.
The Legendary boxing champion passed away on Friday 3rd June 2016 after a 32-year battle with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 74. As popular sports champion, Ali always had a huge fan club both in the US and the world.
Ali has not only been the subject of numerous books, films, and other creative works but also he has been featured on huge number postal issues from around the world.
Not just the USA, but countries like Republic of Guinee, Republic of Zaire, Fujeira, Malawi, Yemen and many more also issued commemorative stamps featuring their favourite boxing champion. Most of the stamps feature his moments in the boxing ring.
