Pandas are always in demand. It seems that coins featuring these adorable creatures are also everyone's favourite! Many 1995 Panda coins are hard to find and when you find them, they are as expensive as an offer price of $16,500. Experts believe that only two hundred top coins exist in half-ounce and quarter-ounce sizes. The face value of the Panda half-ounce gold coin is 50 yuan and mintage is limited to 11,749 coins. Out of them, only 1,750 pieces survive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The reverse depicts a panda clinching onto a branch of bamboo while the obverse features the standard image of the Temple of Heaven.
In September 2012 the coin was sold for $2,115, which means that the coin’s value has multiplied eight fold in four years. The 1994 Panda can be bought for $7,500, which matches the price of a 1998 half-ounce coin.
Experts state that considering the current rarity of the coin, the demand for these coins will gradually increase with time.
