Bahamas at Los Angeles Olympics, 1984

The Bahamas participated for the first time at the Olympics Games in 1952. Since then, they have sent athletes to every Olympics except for the 1980 Olympics Games. Till now, Bahamian athletes have won 14 medals, in athletics and sailing. They have won 6 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals.

The Bahamas participated at the Los Angeles Olympics Games in 1984. Athletes such as Allan Ingraham, Audrick Lightbourne, Dudley Parker and Greg Rolle participated in the 400 m, 100 m, 200m and 400 m hurdles events respectively. In Field events, Brad Cooper participated in the Discus throw and stood at 16th position; Steve Hanna participated in Long jump and Triple jump; Lyndon Sands and Joey Wells participated in Long jump and Steve Wray participated in High jump.

Women athletes such as Eldece Clarke-Lewis, Pauline Davis-Thompson, Debbie Greene, Oralee Fowler and Shonel Ferguson participated at the Olympic Games.

In support of their sports-men and women, Bahama issued a series of stamps and a miniature sheet on the theme of Olympics on 20th June 1984. It depicts sports such as Track Run, Discus Throw, Boxing and Basketball.
