2016-05-28 Sat
The Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradha has asked the Odisha Government to speed up the process of finalizing the designs of Nabakalebara commemorative coins on Lord Jagannath, as one of the world’s most popular events Puri Rath Yatra is just around the corner. The Ministry of Culture had announced to release Rs. 10 and Rs. 1,000 coins in 2015 when Nabakalebara of Lord Jagannath was celebrated after 19 years. A letter was sent requesting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, to speed up the process. 3 letters has been sent to the managing committee and 3 more have been written to the temple administration, but the designs are not yet finalised.
Prominent Odia litterateur JP Das headed a committee to help finalise a design, but the Department of Economic Affairs objected the designs as they did not resemble the deities.
