2020-08-12 Wed
Australian is one of the largest wine exporters in the World. It contributes to the Australian economy significantly. It helps in generating employment, production of wine, export and tourism.Wine is extracted from grapes and major grapes varieties are Shiraz, Pinot noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Riesling. Interestingly, none of the varieties is native. The grape varieties are brought from South Africa and Europe in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Over a period of time, Australians have developed innovative viticulture techniques which make them unique and fall apart from the rest of the World. Australian wine-makers have highly skilled seasonal workers.
The most famous wine comes from this region is Penfolds Grange. The Philately department of Australia felicitates their one of the significant revenue-generating occupation by issuing a series of stamps on 9th April 1992. This was designed by P Blizzard-Allen.
