The Thought Behind "Team Great Britain Olympic Coin"
2016-05-27 Fri
Royal Mint’s only official coin to celebrate Team GB’s participation at the upcoming Rio Olympics was designed by a Liverpool agency Uniform. An east London schoolgirl named Fope Jegede had written a poem “The Champion’s Story” during the last Olympics games that was held in London. The coin’s design is inspired by this lovely poem which was about a fictional girl who was inspired by British role models to achieve all the success she dreamt of. The poem, in a way was a collective voice of the entire nation. The design is very different from the other projects that Uniform has taken up and tries to focus on the achievements of the athletes at their physical best. The design needed to be detailed, impactful and readable at the same time. The athlete depicted is full of energy with the Union Jack around him, representing the hopes of a nation.
