A Stamp Honouring the Founder of the Maurya Empire

India Post issued a stamp honouring the founder of Maurya Empire. A stamp issued in July 2001 features Samrat Chandragupta Maurya – one of the important personalities in Ancient India. The story of Maurya Dynasty started with Chandragupta Maurya. This young prince of Nanda dynasty was taught and trained by Chanakya. It was under the guidance of Chanakya, Chandragupta rose to the power and became the greatest king of India. As soon as he laid the foundation of the kingdom, he sought out the conquests with the main aim of unification India under a single administration. Soon enough the small kingdom became an Empire with almost entire subcontinent under Chandragupta’s dominance. He established a well-organized administrative system and gave it a sound financial base, thus laying the foundation for an enduring empire. During his reign, India prospered and developed a lot in the terms of Trade & Commerce, Art & Culture. This pivotal figure of Ancient India is honoured by India Post. A commemorative stamp worth Rs. 5.00 was issued featuring the king shown sitting on a throne, surrounded by the symbols that appear on the punch-marked coins.Latest News
