A vital rarity in the United States philately world is this 5c brown A Grill stamp issued in 1867. According to the philatelist, there are only four specimens of this unique stamp with the canceled mark. Out of the four specimens, two are light brown while the other two are in dark brown.

The United States was the first and only country to issue a grilled stamp until the mid-1870s. Later on, Peru started issuing such a grill stamp. The letter in the stamp name classifies the grill type this stamp is ‘A’ Grill type which covers the entire stamp.

The finest example of a 5c brown grill stamp was auction by Robert A Siegel on 12th December. It made a record by fetching around 340,000 dollars.
