New Coins to Celebrate 100 Years of Mysore University

The 100th anniversary of Mysore University will be celebrated in a special way by the Central Government. A 100 Rs. commemorative coin and a 5 Rs. circulating commemorative coin will soon be issued to mark this occasion.This public state university in Mysore was founded during the reign of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV on 27th July, 1916. The university was the first independent one in India which did not fall under the Britain administration. It was also the sixth in India, and the first in Karnataka. It was recognised as an autonomous university on 3rd March, 1956 by the University Grants Co.
The coin release is a part of other celebrations to mark this momentous occasion. The Union Finance Ministry’s decision to issue commemorative coins has been conveyed to the Union Urban Development Minister.
