Shakespeare on San Marino Coin

The 400th Death Anniversary of one of the world’s most loved playwright, William Shakespeare will be observed by issuing a circulating commemorative ringed-bimetallic €2 coin by the Republic of San Marino in September. The mintage limit for these coins is 85,000.Shakespeare has written over 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses. His plays have been translated into many languages and are performed more than any other popular plays.
The obverse features a portrait of the poet. Other inscriptions include the dates ‘1616–2016’, ‘SAN MARINO’, the initials of the designer, ‘MB’, ‘WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE’ and The ‘R’ Mint mark. The outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag. The common reverse shows a map of the European Union.
