Australian Map Shaped Emu Coin
2020-07-13 Mon
The stunning Australian emu is the second design featured in the exciting new Australian Map Shaped Coin Series which highlights native Australian wildlife. The Australian emu is the largest bird native to Australia. This unique soft-feathered flightless bird can reach up to two meters in height and is recognized by its long thin neck and legs. When required, the emu can travel at a fast, economical trot and, if necessary, sprint over great distances.
The coin’s unique, map-shaped, colored reverse depicts an emu against the background of a bush scene with grass trees. The inscription EMU also appears in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
The series is a 10 coins series which ended in 2016 with a coin featuring Australia’s iconic wild dog – the dingo.
