Stamps featuring Saints and Poets of India

Government of India issued a set of six stamps commemorating saints and poets of India. These stamps come with different denominations from 9 paise to 12 annas featuring portraits of great saints and poets on the country. The stamps bear their names in Devanagari which is a remarkable feature of this issue.

The stamp of the lowest denomination – 9 Paise depicts the portrait of Kabir who was a mystic saint of 15th century and wrote poetry which represents influence both Hindu and Islamic thought. The stamp of Tulasidas comes in 1Anna of denomination. Tulasidas was famous saint – poet from the times of Akbar.

The third issue is of Meerabai which is 2Annas in denomination. Mira was a Rajput princess who left the glory of Royalty for the devotion of Lord Krishna. The fourth stamp of 4Annas represents Surdas the sightless poet who is famous for the most colourful and vivid poetry depicting the childhood of Lord Krishna.

Galib appears on the fifth stamp which comes in four and half Annas denomination. Mirza Galib was renowned poet whose work is considered to be the most remarkable piece of poetry of Urdu Language. The 6th Stamp is of highest denomination of 12 Annas and features Tavindra Nath Tagore who was not just a poet but also one of the great Indian Thinker and the winner of Nobel Prize.
