The inaugural ceremony of the 14th president and vice president of China will be celebrated today (20th May, 2016) by the Central Bank of China by releasing a commemorative coin set including a gold coin with face value of NT$2,000, priced at NT$48,000, and a NT$200 silver coin priced at NT$1,600.The one ounce, 999.9 pure gold and silver coins, issued by Bank of Taiwan will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. Mintage of the gold coins is limited to 10,000 gold coins and that of the silver coins is limited to 50,000.
The obverse features the portrait of the president-elect Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President-elect Chen Chien-jen. Other inscriptions include "in commemoration of the inauguration of the 14th term president and vice president of the Republic of China" and "Light up Taiwan" in Chinese and the date of her and Chen's inaugural ceremony.
The reverse depicts the official badge of Presidential Office, the slogan "LIGHT UP TAIWAN," the denomination, weight and fineness of the coins. Buyers can purchase a gold and silver coin each, per visit.
Commemorative presidential inauguration coins are being issued since 1996 and the mintage limit would remain the same like the last two releases. Unlike the last releases though, the coins are priced at a lower value due to the falling gold and silver prices.
