The First Battle of Panipat

Today, 21st April had marked the remarkable day in Indian History. This day is marked for the victory of Babur over Ibrahim Lodi in the First Battle of Panipat, it was fought in 21st April 1526. This triumph had led to the establishment of the one of the greatest empire of medieval India, The Mughal Empire.

On the eve of Babur’s visit to India, the Lodi dynasty was crumbling. Daulat Khan Lodi and Ibrahim were going through a dispute concerning their claim to the throne. Daulat Khan sought Babur’s help to overthrow Ibrahim Lodi. Having done so, Babur did not settle on what he achieved. He also annexed and defeated Daulat Khan Lodi and established his own control over the throne of Delhi.

For the next 200 years, the country witnessed serious historical and cultural developments and reached the highest peak of prosperity. They had contributed a major role not only in Indian art and architecture but in many more things.

The Quarter Tanka of Ibrahim Shah Lodi bears the name of the authority and the date of issue written in Arabic script.
