The Bank of Russia is going to introduce new 200 and 2,000-ruble notes in 2017 to make cash transactions convenient and faster.

Releasing high denomination notes is good if the inflation does not exceed 4-6%. The Bank of Russia has predicted that the annual inflation rate would be 4% by the end of 2017. The current Russian banknotes feature characteristics of Russian cities and regions which will be continued on the new notes. The citizens of Russia will vote for what should be featured on the new notes in 2016.

Before this, 5,000-ruble notes were introduced in 2006 and 1,000-ruble notes in 2001.
