Travancore King Rama Varma VI

The full name of Rama Varma VI was HH the Maharajah of Travancore Sree Padmanabhadasa Vanchipala Sir Rama Varma VI. He is also known as Mulam Thirunal Rama Varma. He was the ruling king of princely state Travancore; he sat on the throne of Travancore after succeeding his uncle Maharaja Visakham Thirunal in the year 1885 and ruled it till 1924.

After sitting on the throne of Travancore in the year 1888 he established Travancore Legislative Council; this was the first Legislative Council for a native state in the history of India. Later it was succeeded by Sree Moolam Popular Assembly, the first legislature in Indian history to have elected members.

In the year 1886, he issued the proclamation which reveals the people that are required to pay the penalties on documents executed on an unstamped government document. Later in the year 1887; when it was found that this proclamation is a burden the penalties for the non-payment were reduced.

This silver half-rupee was issued by Rama Varma VI during his reign in Travancore. The obverse of this coin depicts Shankha or Conch Shell and the reverse of this coin depicts value 'Half Rupee' and Malayalam Era DATE 1107.
