Queen Elizabeth Roses on Rose Gold Coins
2016-05-05 Thu
The Royal Canadian Mint is selling silver coins depicting two Queen Elizabeth roses plated in rose gold to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. The Queen Elizabeth rose, introduced in 1954 is a crossbreed between the Charlotte Armstrong hybrid tea rose and the Floradora rose. This variety is more durable and looks extremely beautiful.
The rose gold plating technology replicates the rose’s distinctive pink colour beautifully and makes it stand out from the silver background. Other inscriptions include ‘CANADA’, ‘2016’, ‘3 DOLLARS’, and the artist’s initials, ‘CD’. The obverse features the common design of the Queen with inscriptions ‘ELIZABETH II’ and ‘D G REGINA’.
The face value of the coin is 3 dollars and is sold at CAD $44.95. Mintage is limited to 10,000 numbers.
