Death Anniversary of Emily Bronte

Emily Jane Bronte was an English novelist and poet who is best known for her only novel, Wuthering Heights. Her novel is considered a classic of English literature. She also published one book of poetry with her sisters Charlotte and Anne titled Poems by Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell. Emily was the third-eldest of the four surviving Bronte siblings, between the youngest Anne and her brother Branwell. She published under the pen name Ellis Bell.Emily Bronte remains a mysterious figure and a challenge to biographers because information about her is sparse due to her solitary and reclusive nature. Soon after the publication of her novel, Emily’s health began to fail rapidly. She had been ill for some time, but now her breathing became difficult, and she suffered great pain. She died of tuberculosis on 19th December 1848.
Interest in Bronte's work and life remains strong today. Emily Bronte and her sister Charlotte are each commemorated on stamps from Great Britain issued in 1980. The 15-penny Emily Bronte stamp (Scott 917) also depicts a scene from Wuthering Heights.
